Let’s Know Jay Park Closer!

Posted Image

Jay Park or formerly known as Park Jaebeom first presence in Korea as a trainee at JYP Entertainment in 2004. He emigrated from America to South Korea to continue his goal as a singer.

Being auditioned and chosen directly by Park Jinyoung, the boy who was born in 25 April 1987 decided to leave his comfy life in Seattle, America, to start a new life in Korea. Simple reason, he did not want to continue his study at college. His mother eventually set his free to do what he wants.

Together with 2PM, Jay as a leader debuted with single ’10 Points Out of 10 Points’ on 4 September 2008. Their first mini album ‘Hottest Time of the Day’ got good feedbacks. Continued with the second mini album ‘2:00PM Time For Change’ with hits ‘Niga Mipda (I Hate You)’.

However it’s undeniable, that living in a new country is hard. “So difficult. I’ve never lived in Korea and I don’t know anything about Korean culture or Korean music. I hesitated for a while but my mom kept pushing on the grounds it would be a good move for my future,” said Jay in an interview reported by the Daily KPop News.

The difficulty to adapt caused long term effect. Because of some posts from his MySpace personal account which insulted Korea in 2005, Jay finally had to leave Korea. Left 2PM who had raised his name. “A few months earlier were so difficult because I’ve never stayed away from my family. I really missed them especially my friends who I used to meet with everyday. I didn’t know anyone and I didn’t speak Korean,” he complained.

In 9 August 2009 Jay finally returned to America, brought cries of hundreds of fans who were waiting for him at the airport. He decided to go back to his family and friends.

March 2010 Jay finally returned to the public by creating a personal YouTube account. He posted a video containing him singing the song ‘Nothin’ On You’ by BoB (ft Bruno Mars) in a bathroom. The video was immediately spread out and being watched as many as two million times over 24 hours. He finally sent a message of thanks to the fans who continue to support him.

Jay then successfully spawned his first album titled ‘Take A Deeper Look’ in April 2011. The title track ‘Abandoned ‘ and ‘Tonight’ was successfully drove him back to the music scene in Korea.

Jay Park, Between Tattoos and His Spirits in ‘Art of Movement’

Posted Image

Jay had disappeared in the entertainment scene for a little while because he was “being expelled” from Korea. He returned to America, where friends and family are always there to support him.

When first he joined JYP Entertainment, Jay came as a trainee who had almost matured. Unlike the other (potential) 2PM members who were thin and had not built their bodies, Jay came up with the muscular body and abdominal six packs. Not only that, he was adept at breakdancing or so-called b-boy (break-boy). He often taught his fellow trainees the basic of b-boy moves.

B-boy has already been Jay’s daily routine since he was sitting in High School. He is a part of Art of Movement (AOM), a team who love b-boy which established in 2002 in Seattle. From AOM, Jay started to recognize b-boy and learned a lot about friendship.

“Thanks to them (AOM) I could continue to have the motivation only by looking at their progresses and their spirits. So when I was the lucky one to go on stage, I want to share happiness with them,” says Jay reported by Daily KPop News. Jay then asked his colleagues, ChaCha to be the producer and Daniel Jerome to be the choreographer. “AOM is really talented!” praise Jay.

Since the first he joined JYPE, he only wanted to deliver his love to dance, especially b-boy. He has been idolizing Michael Jackson and Usher since he was a kid.

“I always love dancing. I grew up with Michael Jackson and Usher. I have been interested in dancing since I was a very young. B-boy is like a culture and I fell in love into it and I just can’t stop.” Says Jay seriously.

Because of his love towards Art of Movement, Jay added a tattoo on his body. There is a tattoo behind his right ear, it’s written ‘AOM’. He also admitted from all tattoos he has, that AOM tattoo is the most important for him.

“AOM tattoo is the most important for me. It’s like showing how important AOM is as a part of my life. I grew up with them. They are like my family.” He said.

But the tattoos which are inked on his body caused controversy for many people in Korea because tattoo is still known as the symbol of criminal. What’s Jay’s opinion?

“I love tattoos. It’s like stress reliever. Asking me to not to make tattoo is like asking me to not to rap or to dance. I express my thoughts through tattoos,” he concluded.

Dear Jay Project – Babsang Society

(Note: For those who don’t know, “Dear Jay” is a group of Korean jaywalkers that perform various social services under Jay Park’s name. This is a reply they got from a group called, “Babsang Society”, a union of social workers.)

On the last day of August, where an unexpected heat started to creep up, a package arrived at Babsang Society.
We looked at the sender, and the name read Jay Park.
We opened the package, wondering what Jay Park could have sent us, and it was a box full of meat.
In the box, there was a lot of delicious, high-quality meat.
The favorite side dish of our elders… how thoughtful!

It seems like the package was sent for us to prepare for the Thanksgiving in this hot weather.
We had some time together where we introduced singer Jay Park to the elders and informed of them of the wonderful gift sent by him.
The elders say that they are very grateful and wish to relay their thanks.
We pass on this deep feeling from the elders with short writing.
Thank you so much again for the heart-warming gift.
I believe that we will make delicious side dishes with the meat that Mr. Jay Park sent us and share it with the elders who are spending the Thanksgiving by themselves.

Thank you for your interest and love for Babsang Society.
Babsang Society will always support Jay Park.

Dear Jay: We donated the corns you sent us last time to the Infant Center, for the disabled child that one of the fans is sponsoring. They replied to us saying that the corns are being well used as snacks for the children. The fan who is a sponsor of that place sent something to Babsang Society as a thanks.

Babsang: Thank you. Sharing spreads like the butterfly effect… It’s touching to see that it spread like this to make all the receivers happy… Yikes, I’m tearing up. thank you so so much for the meat that Jay sent us! My nose is becoming red. Thank you.

Jay Park the jester: A beautiful loss more valuable than a win

<Broadcast Review – Immortal Song 2>

Last week, I wrote an entry about Jay Park, who sang according to his feel, won 1st place in the Summer special last week.(omit). After writing about Jay Park last week, I did some research on him. I read that a myspace post written by the 18-year-old Jay Park (omit) had been disparaged as “the abasement of Korea”, due to the mistranslation of certain media groups. In addition, I saw that he left 2PM in the end and was constantly in conflict with JYP. It’s good to see that he is active again after resolving any misunderstandings.

In the end, I feel that all this happened because of the incorrect views that the Korean society has on its celebrities. If they stopped and thought about how these celebrities are also the same, easily-hurt humans like us, I don’t believe they can easily make such comments and criticism that label one person for the rest of their life. Last week, some people, who were “deeply hurt” by the posts of other bloggers who criticized and reproached Jay Park without reason, left a note that they were “grateful” for my review that I wrote without much emotion.

I also could write provocative or criticizing entries to grasp the eyes of the public on portal sites. However, since I know that these unverified posts only get amplified and that the writer gets criticized himself, I only stick to writing reviews about the programs I watch. I believe that a writer should not write about rumours that have not been verified.

To thank those who replied to my entry last week, I will write one today about IS2, focusing on Jay Park.

Jay Park, who sang wonderfully, full of feel, with Kim Soo-Ro, Jang Hyuk and Solbi, earned the privilege of choosing the order of performance by winning 1st place last week. In IS2 or I am a Singer, contestants who perform last leave a deeper impression to the judges, who choose their fate, therefore they try to sing near, if not at, the end if they can.

To Jay Park, who dyed his hair blonde and straightened his hair like a chicken’s comb, his colleagues praise him. When Kyuhyun says, “Jay Park is one man,” G.O. hurriedly compliments, “One sun Jay Park,” and Jiyoon adds on to this parade and says, “I believe in you.” Since they are competitors, before colleagues, G.O., Huh Gak, and even Kim Goo-ra, who comments, “If you win after going first, I’ll count that as two wins,” try to convince him to perform first.

Jay Park says, “I only thought about going last but I think I should choose first because G.O. and Huh Gak wish so much for it; and I think they’ll beat me up if I don’t choose to go first,” and thinks about it. Kim Goo-ra asks Jiyoon, who went first in the last episode, and she answers, “I wished I had gone last!” and regrets it. However, Jay Park says, “let’s go” and chooses to go first. Kim Goo-ra gives him another chance, but he just repeats, “let’s go.” The rest show a surprised look, but they smile remorsefully on the inside. Shin Dong-Yup, who was MC-ing outside, says, “This is the first time it has happened!” and looks unsure.

Jay Park, who walks up to the stage with everyone’s anticipation, says, “I wanted to try something new,” and shows a jester-like side of him. He says to the judges, “It was so pressuring to wait that I chose to go first,” and starts his song, A Feel Good Day by Kim Wan-Sun. Jay Park, whose specialty is in R&B, sings the song, which was rearranged completely, in a modern feel with English-translated lyrics: it was a good start.

After his performance, he loses grip of the mic, perhaps in anxiety. To Jay Park, who comments wittily, “This was part of the performance,” Kim Wan-Sun compliments, “It was a rearrangement beyond imagination. I am impressed,” and thanks Jay Park for singing her song so well.

Jay Park lost to Jiyoon of 4minute, who performed after him. In the end, the performers who came out later won, except Huh Gak, who later lost to Kyuhyun that performed last. All seven performances of this round were extraordinary, and MC Shin commented in regret, “Jay Park should have performed last…”

Having had the choice to go last as he won 1st place last week, Jay Park, however, chose to go first bravely and was the first one to lose. He did not win, but his spirit was beautiful as he was not afraid of challenge and tried something new.

In the preview for next week, the competitions between rivals were shown. Anticipation is building up for the battle between ballad and dance.
