Jay Park or formerly known as Park Jaebeom first presence in Korea as a trainee at JYP Entertainment in 2004. He emigrated from America to South Korea to continue his goal as a singer.

Being auditioned and chosen directly by Park Jinyoung, the boy who was born in 25 April 1987 decided to leave his comfy life in Seattle, America, to start a new life in Korea. Simple reason, he did not want to continue his study at college. His mother eventually set his free to do what he wants.

Together with 2PM, Jay as a leader debuted with single ’10 Points Out of 10 Points’ on 4 September 2008. Their first mini album ‘Hottest Time of the Day’ got good feedbacks. Continued with the second mini album ‘2:00PM Time For Change’ with hits ‘Niga Mipda (I Hate You)’.

However it’s undeniable, that living in a new country is hard. “So difficult. I’ve never lived in Korea and I don’t know anything about Korean culture or Korean music. I hesitated for a while but my mom kept pushing on the grounds it would be a good move for my future,” said Jay in an interview reported by the Daily KPop News.

The difficulty to adapt caused long term effect. Because of some posts from his MySpace personal account which insulted Korea in 2005, Jay finally had to leave Korea. Left 2PM who had raised his name. “A few months earlier were so difficult because I’ve never stayed away from my family. I really missed them especially my friends who I used to meet with everyday. I didn’t know anyone and I didn’t speak Korean,” he complained.

In 9 August 2009 Jay finally returned to America, brought cries of hundreds of fans who were waiting for him at the airport. He decided to go back to his family and friends.

March 2010 Jay finally returned to the public by creating a personal YouTube account. He posted a video containing him singing the song ‘Nothin’ On You’ by BoB (ft Bruno Mars) in a bathroom. The video was immediately spread out and being watched as many as two million times over 24 hours. He finally sent a message of thanks to the fans who continue to support him.

Jay then successfully spawned his first album titled ‘Take A Deeper Look’ in April 2011. The title track ‘Abandoned ‘ and ‘Tonight’ was successfully drove him back to the music scene in Korea.

Jay Park, Between Tattoos and His Spirits in ‘Art of Movement’

Jay had disappeared in the entertainment scene for a little while because he was “being expelled” from Korea. He returned to America, where friends and family are always there to support him.

When first he joined JYP Entertainment, Jay came as a trainee who had almost matured. Unlike the other (potential) 2PM members who were thin and had not built their bodies, Jay came up with the muscular body and abdominal six packs. Not only that, he was adept at breakdancing or so-called b-boy (break-boy). He often taught his fellow trainees the basic of b-boy moves.

B-boy has already been Jay’s daily routine since he was sitting in High School. He is a part of Art of Movement (AOM), a team who love b-boy which established in 2002 in Seattle. From AOM, Jay started to recognize b-boy and learned a lot about friendship.

“Thanks to them (AOM) I could continue to have the motivation only by looking at their progresses and their spirits. So when I was the lucky one to go on stage, I want to share happiness with them,” says Jay reported by Daily KPop News. Jay then asked his colleagues, ChaCha to be the producer and Daniel Jerome to be the choreographer. “AOM is really talented!” praise Jay.

Since the first he joined JYPE, he only wanted to deliver his love to dance, especially b-boy. He has been idolizing Michael Jackson and Usher since he was a kid.

“I always love dancing. I grew up with Michael Jackson and Usher. I have been interested in dancing since I was a very young. B-boy is like a culture and I fell in love into it and I just can’t stop.” Says Jay seriously.

Because of his love towards Art of Movement, Jay added a tattoo on his body. There is a tattoo behind his right ear, it’s written ‘AOM’. He also admitted from all tattoos he has, that AOM tattoo is the most important for him.

“AOM tattoo is the most important for me. It’s like showing how important AOM is as a part of my life. I grew up with them. They are like my family.” He said.

But the tattoos which are inked on his body caused controversy for many people in Korea because tattoo is still known as the symbol of criminal. What’s Jay’s opinion?

“I love tattoos. It’s like stress reliever. Asking me to not to make tattoo is like asking me to not to rap or to dance. I express my thoughts through tattoos,” he concluded.
