Jay Park, “Whether it’s music or acting, I only do things that I want to do.”

(omit) On October 17th, Mr. Idol‘s Kim Soo-ro, Park Yejin and Jay Park appeared as guests on Kong Hyung-Jin’s “Cinetown – BIFF Special”, a live radio show by SBS, at the outdoor stage on Hae-Woon-Dae beach.

On this episode, Kim Soo-ro did not fail to entertain the listeners with his special anecdotes and witty remarks. When Jay Park made a mistake while rapping, Kim Soo-ro commented, “This is the beauty of live broadcasts,” and added, “I like this natural and pure side of Jay.” When DJ Kong Hyung-Jin asked, “Have you ever learned how to dance from Jay Park since he was an actual idol?” Kim soo-ro replied, “I did tell Jay to show me his moves. I was a good dancer myself back in my twenties, but now I’m nothing compared to Jay,” missing his good old days.

(omit) When asked if “there was a moment when [he] had to compromise, unable to resist the temptation,” by DJ Kong Hyung-Jin, Jay Park made the audience laugh by asking what compromise meant. (*NOTE: he didn’t understand what the word meant in Korean). When Kim Soo-ro kindly explained the meaning to him, Jay Park replied firmly, “Whether it’s music or acting, I don’t do things that I don’t want to.”

In addition, to the question of, “While you were filming, did you think of the days when you hadn’t debuted as a singer yet?” Jay Park replied, “To be honest, I did not have the time to think about the past. I was too concentrated on acting and I was preparing for my album at the same time. I was busy personally.”

BIFF 2011 | How to be an idol by Jay Park

Posted Image

“I considered myself quite talented in dancing, but I was nothing against the American idol.”

Why did Kim Soo-ro, the man who at one time, made the nation dance with his “Apex dance”, bow his head? It is because he saw his fellow movie cast member, Jay Park, do the moon walk. “Kong Hyung-Jin’s Cinetown”, a SBS radio show that visits the Busan International Film Festival every year, had its first guests of the year – Kim Soo-ro, Park Yejin and Jay Park of Mr. Idol.

“If you want to be a singer, practice needs to become your daily life.”

“I’m sorry for making such a tacky request, but DJ, please focus on your guests!” Friendly retorts and jokes were exchanged continuously between Kim soo-ro and Kong Hyung-jin, who are best friends in real life, in addition to casual conversations between Park Yejin and Kim Soo-ro, who met once again after Family Outing. In between, Jay Park listens to their conversation with curiosity or reacts with enthusiasm. It seemed that his role as a “character that is wordless but expressive through facial expressions or actions,” in the movie had come to life. To the trainees aspiring to be singers like those in Mr. Idol, Jay Park advises, “(Success) doesn’t just come to you if you put in effort. You need to really love music. That’s how you can stay in the career for long and become successful. You can’t just think, ‘I’m going to practice from 1:00 til 10:00′ to pass the time. Practice needs to become your daily life.”

Jay Park begins to rap to one of the tracks on his new mini album, Girlfriend, with power, in response to Kong Hyung-Jin who asks for a freestyle rap. ” ‘I get a feel just by looking at you… wow~’ uh… I forgot my lyrics (laughs).” What an innocent honesty. Quoting Kim Soo-ro, this just may be the “beauty of live broadcast” to the fans who waited on the sandy beach since morning to see [Jay Park] and to the listeners who are tuning into this conversation by an Autumn sea through the radio.

The Birth of a National Idol Group – its behind story (Mr. Idol)

Mr. Idol, the movie depicting the birth of a national idol group, has finally unveiled itself. The movie is set to show the young population of Korea who proudly push forward with their talent and dreams. Let us join the enthusiastic moments from the press conference of Mr. Idol, the movie.

A seemingly incompatible group of people including actors Kim Soo-ro, Park Yejin, Ji Hyun-Woo and singer Jay Park, have gathered together in one place. We met these people at the Mr. Idol press conference, where laughter never ceased to exist. Amidst the current idol hype which dominates over the music industry, Mr. Children, a group that only knows music, challenged the K-pop world.

Leader Eugene, who really only knows music; dancing Zio, who is the only member of the group with an air of an idol; vocal Hyunee, an ex-CEO of a karaoke bar; and rapper Ricky, who learned Korean through rap. All these members are lacking 2% of the characteristics to be a true idol group. However, Mr. Children becomes the biggest rising rookie of 2011, with the help of Oh Gu-Jyu, the bad-mouthed producer.

However, a dark hand moves behind the scenes to prevent these boys from performing on stage…

Will Mr. Children survive in this deathly music industry and become the idol of fifty million people?

Mr. Children challenges the industry that only recognizes the stars.

Actor Ji Hyun-woo took the role of leader Eugene, who only knows (thinks about) music. As he played the role of an idol group member, he practiced his vocals and learned how to dance, as well as carried on a spartan training to carve his body into a statue-like figure. His transformation as a “beast idol” evokes curiosity. As he had been part of a band before, Hyunwoo must have given a lot of thought to idols, the icon of this generation, while acting as one in the movie.

And (transforming) from an idol to an actor is Jay Park, who finally started his evasion into the screens. In the movie, he plays the role of a character who used to be a member of an idol group and has a great passion for music. Perhaps he should be called Actor Jay Park now? He said that he learned much about acting through this movie.

There is another actor that shows change through this movie. Park Yejin, who plays the role of the industry’s best, skilled producer who is notorious for her harsh criticism. (omit). In addition, Kim Soo-ro, the master of comedy movies, transforms into the strongest villain by far. He will show off the charisma he’d been hiding all this time. Instead of being the usual witty man with a great sense of humour, he will be acting as the unbeatable figure that holds the music industry in his hand.

(omit). Portraying a show of laughter, affection, dream and passion, the movie Mr. Idol will come to the theatres in October.
