Singing and dancing a must, now an idol must be able to act well to be deemed talented?
These days, the ‘acting-idols’, who have set their feet in dramas and even movies, are in. In a survey named, ‘Who is the most anticipated acting-idol this year?’, Jay Park of Mr. Idol (directed by Ra Hee-Chan) placed 1st with incomparable number of votes and is getting a lot of attention from netizens.
It’s hard to be an idol these days? In the past, idol singers only had to worry about singing and dancing. Nowadays, those two are basic needs for an idol; appearances on variety shows are optional and on top of that, they must be good at acting to be accepted.
It is now what is called an ‘acting-idol generation’. With the sudden increase in the number of idols that are setting their foot in dramas and movies, the anticipation for ‘acting-idols’ have increased as well.

Movie poll: Which is the most anticipated acting-idol this year?
As if reflecting this rush, Nate recently conducted a poll called ‘Which is the most anticipated acting-idol this year?’ and gained a lot of attention from netizens. The candidates were Hyomin(T-ara) of the movie, “Ki-Sang-Ryung”, Jay Park of the movie, Mr. Idol, Kim Jae-Joong(JYJ) of the drama, “Protect the Boss” and Nam Ji-Hyun(4minute) of the drama, “A 1000 kisses”.
Many netizens participated in the poll, which was conducted for one week between July 18-24. Jay Park of Mr. Idol gained 83% of the votes and placed 1st, gathering attention.
This is noticeable especially because he got the overwhelming majority compared to Hyomin, who placed 2nd with 16% of the votes and JaeJoong and Ji-Hyun who placed 3rd and 4th respectively.
This is more significant since the results show the strong trust of the fans towards Jay Park, who has continuously showed his humbleness and preseverance.
To Jay Park, who is preparing to transform from the ‘original beast idol’ to an ‘acting-idol’, netizens have made comments such as, “I’m anticipating how Jay Park will change as an actor” and “Jay Park daebak, I’m anticipating this. Fighting to your preseverance!”, and continuing their support for him.
Director Ra Hee-Chan’s second comedy, Mr. Idol, has a fancy line-up with Park Ye-Jin, Ji Hyun-Woo, Kim Soo-ro, Yim Won-Hee, Jay Park etc. as well as a storyline dealing with “idols”, the hottest keyword of the Korean culture these days. A variety of fun will amuse the eyes and the ears of the audience.
The interest and the anticipation of the netizens are skyrocketing especially because this is the first Korean movie that Jay Park, who was always followed by prefixes like ‘original beast idol’, ‘dancing-idol’, has challenged in. In Mr. Idol, Jay Park plays the role of “Jio”, who was a member of the idol group, “Mr. Children”, and is now active as a club DJ after the break-up of the group.
Jay Park transformed into the cold and harsh, but loyalty-valuing Jio and will show various sides from ‘touchy-idol’ to the ‘loyal-idol’.
(omit) Mr. Idol, with a storyline dealing with idols, a fancy cast and a solid production, is planning to deliver fresh amusement to the audience in October.
