Not even the rainfall on one late summer’s night could stop their parade.

On 28th, Jay Park (aka Jaebeom), an artist and actor, held his first official meeting with his fans at the Seoul Hwajung Gymnasium.

At this rendezvous, titled “JAEBEOM FAN MEETS TOUR 2010”, there were situations where it could have been tiring, sometimes difficulty, but it was marked in their memories as “happiness”.

Around 6000 (sponsor’s estimate) Jaywalkers (a name for Jay’s fans) gathered at the venue, from not only all over the country but also Japan, USA, Canada, etc.

Jaebeom, who entered amongst the deafening cheers, started his fanmeet with his solo debut single, ‘Count on Me’.

Jaebeom, after finishing his first song, greeted the fans saying, “It’s been such a long time, I’m really happy to be here. I’m really grateful that so many of you came. I prepared this the best I could so please enjoy.”

After, hiphop musicians that have been communing with Jaebeom appeared as guests.

Jaebeom performed ‘Doin Good’, one of Dok2’s songs that he featured in. Next, The Quiett, who showed up as the second guest, heated up the venue with his famous song, ‘Only One Life’.

And in this hot atmosphere, a serious happening occurred. When Jaebeom appeared after Dok2 and The Quiett’s performances, the fans in the standing seats began to stir up.

With this agitation from the fans who wanted to see Jaebeom closer up, the venue became chaotic. Comedian Kim BumYong, the MC, tried to control the situation wittily for the fans’ safety, but it didn’t resolve easily.

But a miraculous thing happened. The fans that did not move an inch at anything else, started to clear up the chaos when the MC stated, “Please move back as much as you love Jaebeom.” To this, the fans on the second floor could not hide their smiles.

Jaebeom’s off-the-wall responses flooded the Q&A time. When asked about his height, Jaebeom answered, “Just a bit off of 180cm. About 10cm?” and made the fans laugh.

When demanded to show his ‘honey abs’, Jaebeom replied, “I’m not a cheap man like that. I will show them to you when I’m singing later” but contrary to his words he slightly showed his six-pack.

Regarding the news on his official album, he announced, “I’m not sure yet but there will be single albums so please anticipate them.” He confused the fans by adding, “They will be released September 2013”.

As the mood of the fanmeet was beginning to reach its climax, familiar guests showed up. They were Jaebeom’s friends who have been b-boying with him since he lived in the States, called AOM (Art of Movement), and lightened up the stage even more.

AOM exposed Jaebeom’s real nature through the OX (true or false) quiz.

They held up O(true) to questions like ‘Jaebeom doesn’t wash often’ and ‘Jaebeom thinks he is the best-looking amongst AOM’ and held up X(false) to ‘Jaebeom was popular to girls when he was in the States’.

After the quiz for ‘Jaebeom’s biggest charm is his killer-smile?’, pictures of Jaebeom in his childhood, smiling wide, appeared on the giant screen. MC Kim BumYong asked the audience, “Jaebeom is much better now than his childhood days” and all fans held up their arms and made an O (true).

A time for fans, the VIPs of this event, were prepared on stage. The names of six fans were drawn and they partnered up with AOM members and played Noonchi game and speed quiz. A fifteen-year-old girl fan who won these games got to play a Pushing game with Jaebeom and got to take a picture with him.

Jaebeom also premiered the music video of his new single, Demon, the greatest interest of the fans, and performed it live on stage for the first time as well.

‘Demon’ is the Original Soundtrack for Jaebeom’s debuting movie, Hype Nation and it had gathered great interest since it was produced by the famous Teddy Riley who composed Michael Jackson’s ‘Dangerous’.

In the music video, Jaebeom attracted the audiences’ attention with song and dance that echoed Michael Jackson. He drew out the cheers from fans with a charismatic performance in the following live stage of ‘Demon’.

Jaebeom also did a fancy b-boying performance with AOM. Jaebeom, who made the fans go wild with the stage of a perfect mix between freestyle and military style b-boying, also revealed his cute side by dancing to a medley of girl group songs.

Lastly, Jaebeom announced a regrettable goodbye after performing ‘Bestie’, a collaboration between him and ChaCha, a member of AOM. Fans showed their satisfaction for their first meet with Jaebeom by screaming with awe and sending cheers of excitement.

Not all the processes for Jaebeom’s first fanmeet were smooth. There was some imperfection in terms of fanmeet ticket price issues, venue controversy that were proposed even before the fanmeet and the unskilful progress of the event.

But there was something that made up for these imperfections: the burning desire of Jaebeom and his fans for each other. One fan that I met at the event said something like this, “There’s nothing more we expect from Jaebeom now. We just wish that he stays by our side. Just like now…”
